Counter-Strike 2, the largest technical leap forward in Counter-Strike’s history, is set to launch this summer as a free upgrade to CS:GO.
The game promises new features and updates for years to come, and a Limited Test is currently underway for select CS:GO players to evaluate a subset of the game's features and shake out any issues before the worldwide release.
One of the game-changing features is the dynamic volumetric Smoke Grenades that interact with the environment, react to lighting, gunfire, and explosions, and have the ability to interact with other gameplay events, creating new opportunities. Maps have also received a significant upgrade, with full overhaul maps that have been fully rebuilt from the ground up, upgrade maps that use new Source 2 lighting, and classic touchstone maps that remain unchanged.
The game's Source 2 tools and rendering features will be available for community map makers to experiment and iterate, and players can bring their entire CS:GO inventory with them to Counter-Strike 2. All visual effects have been reimagined with high-definition VFX and accurate audio, making for a more immersive gaming experience.
The Limited Test only evaluates a subset of the game's features, with much more to come. Counter-Strike fans can look forward to learning more about the game in the coming months. For more information, visit https://www.counter-strike.net/cs2
